The client wanted a bespoke website that feels more like a curated gallery than a template portfolio. He did not need a heavy ecommerce build or a services landing experience. The goal was to present photography in a clean, immersive layout, keep performance high, and make it easy for visitors to get in touch if they are interested in prints or occasional paid work. The site also needed a simple blogging experience so he could publish articles in his own voice.
We set four objectives. First, create a visuals-first browsing experience that highlights images without clutter. Second, support a lightweight blog that is easy to maintain and that aligns with how the photographer talks about gear and technique. Third, provide a clear but low pressure path to contact for print inquiries or one-off commissions. Fourth, keep the site fast, responsive, and accessible so images load smoothly on any device.
We designed a streamlined information architecture with three clear entry points: Home, Gallery, and Contact. The gallery uses a minimal, high contrast layout that lets each image breathe, with simple hover and modal behavior for fullscreen viewing. The Home page introduces Shifted Pixel in a concise “About” section written by the photographer, followed by a “Recent Blog Posts” feed that surfaces new articles without burying the images. The Contact page copy invites conversation and sets expectations that photography is a passion first, while still welcoming paid work and print requests. For performance and accessibility, we implemented responsive images, modern image formats where appropriate, descriptive alt text for meaningful images, and keyboard friendly navigation. We also tuned metadata and headings for basic SEO and configured analytics to see which images or posts lead to contact.
The new site delivers the bespoke look and feel the client wanted while keeping the experience simple for visitors. The gallery places images at the center and removes distractions. The blog gives the photographer a place to share practical guidance, which helps returning visitors and supports organic search on topics beginners often ask about. The contact path remains open without being pushy, which fits the client’s intent to share work first and sell only when interest arises. Navigation is clear, performance is strong, and the visual identity feels cohesive across pages, including Gallery and Contact.
Shifted Pixel now has a custom photography website that looks and behaves like a personal gallery, not a generic template. It showcases work in a clean, immersive way, offers room to write, and makes it easy for interested visitors to start a conversation. The result supports the photographer’s goals today and leaves room to grow, whether that means adding print offerings, more writing, or occasional client projects.
